The American Left's War Against America

I will quote verbatim from The Intellectual Activist's Rob Tracinski in his September 14 post. Mr. Tracinski has been pointing out to readers that the American Left is fighting a war - not against a common enemy but against its own country, America.

"Terrorism has been described as 'the weapon of the weak,' a weapon employed by those who cannot win in direct combat on the battlefield. That is the meaning of today's wave of bombings in Baghdad. The terrorist insurgency just suffered a defeat in Tal Afar --so they retaliate, not by attacking the US military or even the Iraqi military, but by blowing up Iraqi civilian day-laborers.

"As a military strategy, this makes no sense. If the insurgents keep suffering losses on the battlefield, and they can only answer by attacking unarmed civilians, how do they expect to win the war? The better question is: who do they expect to win the war for them? The answer: the American left, who they hope will use new terrorist attacks as an excuse to claim that Iraq is a "quagmire" and call for a US withdrawal.

"This is the sickening irony of the so-called "peace movement": that it is a crucial part of the terrorists' war strategy -- and that the terrorists commit the worst war atrocities known to man precisely to appeal to the "peace movement's" alleged humanitarians." (www.TIADaily).

Quagmire indeed. We are in a quagmire of unreason, hostility and "hatred of the good for being the good" (as Ayn Rand so eloquently put it) by our own citizens - the American Left led by such people as Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton and Jane Fonda (yup she's at it again).

Hurricane Experts Say Global Warming a Hoax

Let the experts who study Hurricanes, their cycles, strength and trends speak for once so that those who know not can be silenced. The following is an excerpt from an interview James Glassman did with three hurricane experts for the September 9th edition of Tech Central Station.com.

Dr. James J O’Brien, Director of the Center for Ocean-Atmospheric Prediction Studies at Florida State University where he is the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Meteorlogy and Oceanography.

"But what’s amazing is if you actually looked at the trends in the Atlantic Ocean – the region where hurricanes form from five north to 20 north – from Africa over to the United States, it’s actually cooling down. So, I mean yes, there are hotspots in the globe which are warming up, but not in the Atlantic hurricane formation region. So, their theory doesn’t really hold water."

"If you take the strength of the hurricanes at landfall from 1851 to 2004 and plot it up, you’ll see this remarkable semi-periodic thing come out with about 15 years or so of many storms, strong storms and then 15 years or so with much reduced storms and then 15 years… and it just keeps going like that over the 150 years we have records of. And so if you look at this long record, you’ll see that there’s absolutely no evidence of any increase in strength. Of course, in the periods when we have a lot of storms, you’re likely to have stronger storms; and in the periods where you have less storms, you’re likely not to have strong storms."

"With regard to people who work on hurricanes or are knowledgeable about the tropics – I don’t know of anybody who would think that global warming is causing Katrina."

Roy Spencer, principal research scientist for university of Alabama, Senior Scientist for Climae Studies at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, US Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer on NASA’s Aqua satellite)

"Well, yes. I think that’s an irresponsible position to take. Certainly, the previous huge hurricanes that we had in the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, didn’t have anything to do with mankind’s production of CO2 because we hadn’t produced very much by then, and I find it just irresponsible that anyone would claim that this hurricane was caused by global warming."

"Yes, I agree completely. Little Band-Aid solutions like the Kyoto Protocol aren’t going to do enough to have any measurable impact on global warming in the future – no matter what you believe global warming is going to be in the future. Maybe we should be looking more seriously at technological solutions to the problem. That indeed is what the current administration has been advocating most recently."

Dr. William Gray was Professor of atmospheric Science and head of the Tropical Meteorology at Colorado State University and pioneer of the science of hurricane forecasting.

"All my colleagues that have been around a long time – I think if you go to ask the last four or five directors of the national hurricane center – we all don’t think this is human-induced global warming. And, the people that say that is is are usually those that know very little about hurricanes. I mean, there’s almost an equation you can write the degree to which you believe global warming is causing major hurricanes to increase is inversely proportional to your knowledge about these storms."

"You know, most of meteorological research is funded by the federal government. And boy, if you want to get federal funding, you better not come out and say human-induced global warming is a hoax because you stand the chance of not getting funded."

"I am convinced myself that in 15 or 20 years, we’re going to look back on this and see how grossly exaggerated it all was. The humans are not that powerful. These greenhouse gases, although they are building up, they cannot cause the type of warming these models say – two to five degrees centigrade with a doubling of the greenhouse gases."

China's Road to Fascism

The Washington Times has a fascinating article regarding China’s frenzied pace of military buildup over the past 10 years.

“China’s economy has been growing at a rate of at least 10 percent for each of the past 10 years, providing the country’s military with needed funds for modernization. The combination of a vibrant centralized economy, growing military and increasingly fervent nationalism has transformed China into what many defense officials view as a fascist state. .. ‘We may be seeing in China the first true fascist society on the model of Nazi Germany, where you have this incredible resource base in a commercial economy with strong nationalism, which the military was able to reach into and ramp up incredible production,’ a senior defense official said.”

This two part article written by Bill Gertz nicely summarizes the monster err I mean dragon in the east. Part two (Theft of U.S. technology boost China’s weaponry) is particularly troubling. It appears that China uses its vast army of students studying abroad (150,000), delegations in the New York area (300,000) and maybe visitors (700,000 a year) as intelligence and business spies. China also acquires information from “unwitting American visitors to China – from both the US government and the private sector – who are “serially indiscreet” in disclosing information sought by Beijing”.

And here I thought the Chinese finally recognized the merits of capitalism and individualism and were slowly giving up the communist ideology of statism and collectivism. Well, not exactly by a long shot. It appears they are hijacking capitalism in the market place to have a fountain of wealth as they convert to a fascist state. Well, at least the Chinese state recognizes that collectivism is a straight road to poverty. But fascism is just the other side of the coin from communism. While communism is a dictatorship based on public ownership of the means of production, that is, the abolition of all private property and individualism, fascism is a dictatorship where the citizen has all the responsibilities of property ownership but no freedom to act because the government has power of its use and disposal. Either way the individual is a serf of the government: the first is without pretense – to each according to his need and from each according to his ability. The second is an outright sham.

It’s interesting to note that the Chinese have had decades of observing the United States and reading the record and yet they choose not liberty for all but a bit of economic liberty for a few (mainly in the cities) and power for the few. The question is why is China so bent on military buildup (by stealing our secrets)? Is it just to conquer Taiwan? I doubt it. They have grand designs of conquering much more than Taiwan and the US better be ready to deal with this issue before it’s too late. The scary thing is that we are squandering our efforts and money in Iraq where the chance of a democracy let alone a republic is dim at best.

Maybe it’s time to pull out of Iraq, a war we are fighting with the stated altruist goal of establishing a democracy. But we should be fighting Iraq selfishly - for the defense of America and Americans against Islamo-fascism. Self-defense is something we can do anytime and anyplace where our interests are at stake. Changing another peoples’ style of government without first total subjugation (as we did with Japan in WWII) is a fool’s pipe dream. Our resources of intelligence gathering, money and know how are better spent on the coming military threat from the East and the nuclear threat from Iran.

Knuckle Dragging Mid-West Takes on Maureen Dowd

Dear Ms. Dowd,

I usually don't read leftist columnists because they always get things wrong. But I couldn't resist regarding Katrina. Your hyperbole and supreme ability to climb the heights of exaggeration and cast aspersions on this Presidency are amusing and tiring at the same time. I'd like to see in your previous writings if you have any blame to place at the feet of Bill Clinton as he threw away a couple of chances to nab Bin Laden. Did he read the "trellis of pre-9/11 intelligence briefs" or the "CIA's pre-war reports"?

Being a newspaper writer you should stick to the facts and try to keep your emotions under a tighter rein. You seem to emanate an almost gleefulness in your writing that this tragedy happened under Bush. Professionalism, Ms. Dowd - Professionalism.

Yes Ms Dowd I live in the knuckle dragging mid-west, as you leftists call us. But I lived many years in New York City and New Jersey and wouldn't ever live there again because of the elitist intelligentsia, who think they know it all for the rest of us.

Even Poor Mayans are Crushed by Environmentalists

You thought that eco-activists had the poor and the down-trodden in mind with their “crusades” in favor of native cultures? The environmentalist façade is slipping for all to see if we but open our eyes. Mary Anastasia O’Grady, who reports on the Americas for the Wall Street Journal wrote on August 19 about the Canadian gold mining company Glamis Ltd. which has been mining for gold in a remote mountain village in Guatemala. They have brought jobs, training, doctors and community investment to this underdeveloped and impoverished area. The locals are thankful for the work and the good pay in a Mayan region where poverty and the daily struggle to survive are the realities they must confront.

But there is opposition to this progress in the form of a bearded Italian who arranges, through his Mayan underling, for the workers to be intimidated and threatened until they quit their good jobs out of fear. Of course orders are coming from the big city from none other than its big cohune – the Catholic Bishop. They are concerned about the contamination of the area with the toxic substances used to extract the gold. Yes they are concerned alright. They are concerned that the masses of poor in Guatemala (replace this country with any other Central and South American country) will be able to accumulate some wealth, send their children to school, build a better house, buy a television set. They are concerned that they might lose control over the lives of these poor “sheep of the church”.

The religion of environmentalism is the current disguise used to control the indigenous people by keeping them in a state of “nature” thereby depriving them of the means to improve their subsistence existence. This is a prime example of the petty local tyrant who believes he knows better than the poor who have to work for a living and struggle with nature everyday of their lives in order to exist. Now multiply this vision by a million petty tyrants running around the Americas and the world crying that the environment must be saved. From what? From the encroachment of people trying to survive. Nature as is must be preserved, they cry – it has intrinsic value in and of itself. A mountain is supreme over the life a village of peasants (even when the company is being very environmentally conscientious as Glamis is).

If you just took mining for metals and imagined that it was prohibited from now on we would not have iron or steel to make cars, bridges, hospitals or railroads, or copper wire for electricity to supply power to our television sets, computers, lighting, and surgical instruments – the list goes on and on. If you think about it, really think, the only conclusion is not that these environmentalists love nature but rather that they hate modern man and would have us all go back to being cavemen, living like animals. And must I write that living like animals is not as it is depicted by National Geographic in their lovely photos and television specials?

Maybe it’s time for the us to stop being naïve and supportive of environmentalists in whatever garb they appear in: third world priests or university professors or PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Let’s denounce them for what they are: destroyers of human happiness and progress.
