Finally People Realize Who Obama Really Is

At last people are realizing who and what we elected to lead our country. It has taken 2.5 years of utter stupidity, negligence and downright dereliction of duty by Obama for the truth to come out - that Obama is not fit to be the leader of anything let alone a great nation like The United States of America. We made a mistake - now let's not repeat it by re-electing this inept man to a second term. That may be the end of us.

It's amazing how quiet liberals have become recently in defense of Obama. This was another "big speech" week, but we had no liberals out there defending the president.

I don't know. Maybe as his own chief of staff, Bill Daley said, sometimes there is no defending the indefensible.

Dahni wrote: I'm beginning to think that Obama really isn't very smart, as proclaimed by many, and as indicated might be the case with his degree from Harvard. Cunning, immoral and self-loving might be much more accurate in describing him. He does so many things that I consider pretty stupid.- in response to Obama Proclaims: Stimulus Forever.

Kind of a weird admission for your own chief of staff to make, but it tells you exactly why Obama's in trouble.

...I think even liberals are catching on to the fact that Obama isn’t what has been advertised.

I don’t know how smart you have to be to be president, but I think that maybe we could try someone who doesn’t have an Ivy League degree next time. More common sense, less education would be a great relief to the country. My understanding is that getting into Harvard is the hard part, but once in, they do what they can to grease you through.

...Obama, his whole adult life, has been getting away with mediocrity disguised as brilliance by a practiced and nuanced cadence that he reads from a script. He’s gotten away with it because liberals are in love with the color of his skin, his romantic and mysterious background, his diversity. Now that he’s being graded like the rest of us are, he’s shown that he can’t adapt. He’s doing the same things he’s always done and those things just aren’t working.

The Blah, Blah, Blah President....

By Alan Caruba

President Blah, Blah, Blah got in front of the television cameras midday on Monday to say the usual meaningless things he has been saying since he was elected, none of which are true and none of which have been able to hide the fact that he has driven the nation into the ditch with a lot of help from Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Over the weekend he unleashed the White House attack dogs to blame the nation’s problems on the Tea Party when, of course, it was his administration that added three trillion to our debt.

After a while we just stop listening to what a president says; especially if we have concluded he is either clueless or has a hidden agenda.

“If his lips are moving, he’s lying” is an old cliché, but it fits President Barack Hussein Obama because it is quite likely that no one believes him any more with the exception of the usual brain-dead liberals who still think he is a genius. So far he has shown a genius for increasing the debt and the unemployment numbers.

This is a man who was still talking about electric cars, high speed trains, and renewable energy while the price of gas continued to increase along with everything else.

On Monday he was still talking about the nation's infrastructure as a source of jobs even after recently admitting there were few "shovel ready" projects. Tired ideas, ideas that don't work, repeated over and over again.

President Obama has been boring people from the day he took office. “This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.” The oceans have been rising a few centimeters every century and the planet is just fine. His election did not transform either the laws of nature or physics.

Instead, all that transformational gibberish turned out to be about a nation already in financial trouble as the result of the September 2008 bursting of the housing bubble. His response was to waste a great deal of time forcing Obamacare on everyone. Americans want to feel that they have a say in what the government is doing and, when they don’t, they organize. Atlas Shrugged - The Movie and Just at the Right Time

Listen to this conversation about Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" the movie part 1. I saw it last week and loved it. I'd been waiting for decades for a movie and I was ecstatic to see it on the big screen. The timing of course is impeccable! What with our politicians taking us down the road to self destruction as a country it couldn't have come out at a better time. Ayn Rand knew where we were headed 50 years ago and wrote down all her ideas and forecasts for America in a great novel called "ATLAS SHRUGGED".

The Averted Government Shutdown - Key elements

Key elements of the deal that averts a government shutdown:

  • Sets discretionary spending for the remainder of the 2011 fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, at $1.049 trillion. That is $39 billion less than was budgeted for 2010 and $79 billion less than President Obama had requested. House Republicans had wanted $22 billion in additional cuts.
  • Includes $513 billion for defense – less than Republicans and President Obama wanted but more than the $508 billion provided in 2010.
  • Drops Republican-backed provisions that would have ended funding for the new health-care law, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and National Public Radio.
  • Drops Republican-backed provisions that would have barred funding for Environmental Protection Agency regulation of greenhouse gases and for the Federal Communications Commission to implement "net neutrality" rules.
  • Bans the use of funds for the transfer of prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay detention center in Cuba to the U.S. mainland.
  • Calls for the Senate to take up-or-down votes on separate bills to cut off funding for the health-care law and to turn federal aid to family-planning programs into block grants to the states.
  • Bans the use of any public funds – federal or local – to pay for abortions in the District of Columbia.
  • Re-establishes a school voucher system for the District of Columbia, a longtime cause of House Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio). The program provides low-income children with vouchers to attend a school of their parents' choice.
  • Includes a mandate calling for an annual audit of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which had been created by last year's Dodd-Frank financial overhaul law. Republicans have been widely critical of the law. SEE ARTICLE at WSJ.

Obama in Wonderland

Obama's Vision of NASA: Improving relations with the Muslim world.
"Silly me. I thought America's unparalleled space program (before the present administration began dismantling it) was a triumph of American ingenuity, technology, vision and boldness. Instead, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden says its 'foremost mission' is not returning to the moon, or completing a mission to Mars; rather it is improving relations with the Muslim world. Bolden says President Obama told him he also wants NASA to encourage children to study science and math, but isn't that best done by applying science and math to a robust space program?

"Obama is boldly going where no president has gone before. It is a continuation of the president's subjugation of himself (bowing to foreign leaders) and the country he is charged with leading by obsequiously kowtowing to a people for whom advancement to the Middle Ages would be a step up."
Cal Thomas, Syndicated Columnist.

Federal Spending and National Debt
"In one of President Obama’s many prissy little sermonettes, complete with finger-wagging, he has declared: 'Next year when I start presenting some very difficult choices to the country, I hope some of these folks who are hollering about deficits step up. Because I’m calling their bluff.'

"There is already a bipartisan commission set to provide political cover for the Democrats’ wild spending, which has increased the national debt from 63 percent of the country’s GDP in 2004 to 83 percent in 2009— and official estimates of more than 90 percent this year, with more increases in sight.

"Why Republicans join such transparent attempts to rescue the Democrats from the political consequences of their own actions is one of the many unsolved mysteries of human nature in general and the Republican party in particular."
Thomas Sowell, Syndicated columnist

Words, Words and Words...Obama Is the Master of Uttering the Wrong Words and Giving the Wrong Signal to our Enemies

If you think that words don't matter in politics and the world stage you should read this essay by Victor Hanson "(Even a Few) Words Matter to Bad Actors" at IBD. In this article Mr. Hanson lists some of the remarks, comments and quips that have been made in history and the signals these utterances give to those who are threats to our liberty. History is filled with the consequences of the wrong words at the wrong time. Obama and his minions seem not to be aware (or are doing it on purpose) that what comes out of their mouths is interpreted with great care. And if the thugs of the world see that Obama and his administration will not carry a stick then they will have their their way.

British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain was ecstatic after the Munich Conference of 1938. He bragged that he had coaxed Adolf Hitler into stopping further aggression after the Nazis gobbled up much of Czechoslovakia.

Arriving home, Chamberlain proudly displayed Hitler's signature on the Munich Agreement, exclaiming to adoring crowds, "I believe it is peace for our time. ... And now I recommend you to go home and sleep quietly in your beds."

But after listening to Chamberlain's nice nonsense, Hitler remarked to his generals about a week later, "Our enemies are little worms, I saw them at Munich." War followed in about a year.

Sometimes deterrence against aggression is lost with just a few unfortunate words or a relatively minor gesture.

Secretary of State Dean Acheson gave a comprehensive address to the National Press Club in early 1950. Either intentionally or by accident, he mentioned that South Korea was beyond the American defense perimeter. Communist North Korea, and later China, agreed. War broke out six months later.

Well before the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in 1979, and sent aid to communist rebels in Central America, President Jimmy Carter announced that America had lost its "inordinate fear of communism."

In 1981, Britain, as a goodwill gesture in the growing Falkland Islands dispute, promised to withdraw a tiny warship from the islands. But to the Argentine dictatorship, that reset-button diplomacy was seen as appeasement. It convinced them that the United Kingdom was no longer the nation of Admiral Nelson, the Duke of Wellington and Winston Churchill. So Argentina invaded the Falklands...

"Stop the Obama Administration's Grab for Arbitrary Power"

As Obama grabs more and more power Americans must rise up in protest and proclaim our detestation of this capricious and dangerous administration. It must end now - and we the people must continue battling against tyranny and be alert constantly for deeds and actions that betray our Constitution. If you are fuzzy on our unique and great history a great place to start is to watch Glenn Beck on Fox News at 5 pm Eastern time. He does an excellent job of presenting the facts of our past and interviewing Historians and people who KNOW American history. The following is part of Rob Tracinski's The Intellectual Activist Daily. Click on the link below his commentary.

3. Arbitrary and Capricious

The "escrow fund" Obama squeezed out of BP was not only outside of any legal authority. Experts on these sorts of cases are also saying that it is a "magnet for fraud," precisely because it bypasses the usual legal requirements, such as actually having to appear in court to make your case that the plaintiff owes you damages.

But the big story about Obama's mismanagement of the Gulf disaster is his six-month moratorium on deep-water offshore drilling, an arbitrary measure that threatens to shut down oil exploration for years as drilling rigs—and the investment capital behind them—go where they are more welcome and face less political risk.

The damages has already been done—once political risk rears its ugly head, it takes a long time for investors to regain a sense of safety, even if the moratorium is lifted. But it is a very good sign that a federal judge has declared the moratorium to be unconstitutional, on the grounds that it is literally an arbitrary act, one based on no arguments, reasoning, or legal procedure, and is therefore a violation of the right to due process.

This is good news, because this case is about much more than a drilling moratorium. It's about whether there is any part of the American system of government that is willing to stand up to stop the Obama administration's grab for arbitrary power. The judiciary is the only place left to look for such action, and it's good to see that there is at least one judge who is up to the job.

But as if to underscore its contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law, the administration immediately declared, not just that it would appeal the ruling, but that it would immediately issue a new, slightly reworded ban within a few days—in effect, ignoring the judge's ruling and trying to circumvent it.

Perhaps President Obama will borrow a notorious statement of presidential lawlessness attributed to Andrew Jackson: "Mr. Feldman has made his decision, now let him enforce it." Read and Join TIADaily.com.

"Our enemies get courted; our friends get the squeeze. It has happened to Poland, the Czech Republic, Honduras and Colombia. Now it's Israel's turn"

The hypocrisy of this administration is beyond comprehension. Obama and his minions have been dissing our friends and cozying-up to the bad guys. What is one to think about this? What? Please tell me? Treason? A desire to destroy America as we know it? Explain this to me. All I see is danger-danger for our country, danger for our principles, danger for our freedoms.

In recent weeks, the Obama Administration has endorsed "healthy relations" between Iran and Syria, mildly rebuked Syrian President Bashar Assad for accusing the U.S. of "colonialism," and publicly apologized to Moammar Gadhafi for treating him with less than appropriate deference after the Libyan called for "a jihad" against Switzerland.

When it comes to Israel, however, the Administration has no trouble rising to a high pitch of public indignation. On a visit to Israel last week, Vice President Joe Biden condemned an announcement by a mid-level Israeli official that the government had approved a planning stage—the fourth out of seven required—for the construction of 1,600 housing units in north Jerusalem. Assuming final approval, no ground will be broken on the project for at least three years.

But neither that nor repeated apologies from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prevented Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—at what White House sources ostentatiously said was the personal direction of President Obama—from calling the announcement "an insult to the United States." White House political chief David Axelrod got in his licks on NBC's Meet the Press yesterday, lambasting Israel for what he described as "an affront."

"Let's Pretend" That The Terrorists Are Not Terrorists

This editorial is right on the money. Obama and his minions ARE pretending that terrorists are not terrorists but plain old criminals. And as these terrorists in countries like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen see after a year that our President is soft on crime they will mount ever more and more daring attacks on a weakened America. Mr. Obama wake up from your dreams of redistributive justice and do the job we elected you for - The PROTECTION OF AMERICA AND AMERICANS.

...The U.S. now holds a prisoner of war who has knowledge that could foil future terrorist operations. The Obama administration has a moral obligation to extract it from Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.

The White House seems very big on the idea that fear is our enemy, not our friend. When sheer luck prevented the destruction of Northwest flight 253, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano instantaneously insisted there was no larger conspiracy involved — even though the failed bomber himself said otherwise.

And for nearly a year now it has been official U.S. policy, from the commander in chief on down, to eschew wartime terminology. Forget "global war on terror" and substitute "overseas contingency operations." Cut "terrorism," paste in "man-made disasters."

Quelling fears, however, isn't the real purpose behind the altering of the U.S. government's post-9/11 language. This is:

If the public stops believing the free world is in a protracted war with Islamofascist mass murderers, then the question of which party's anti-terrorism policy is better loses all meaning. You can't lose a non-war, any more than you can win one.

If Abdulmutallab is akin to the D.C. Sniper or the Son of Sam, then why turn him upside down in search of information? What's the point in placing another David Berkowitz in a cold jail cell, or depriving a John Allen Muhammad clone of sleep so he'll tell us what he knows?

Former Vice President Dick Cheney hit it on the head this week in charging that this administration is playing an inexcusable game of "Let's Pretend." If we close Guantanamo Bay and send terrorist POWs to some hamlet in Illinois, if we have ACLU-friendly judges try 9/11 conspirators in liberal New York City, then the American people will realize that the big-government sophisticates can take care of these problems.

Obama's Anti-Business Personality

Obama is not pro-entrepreneur - it's all fog and mirrors. America was the land of entrepreneurs but China and India have liberated their entrepreneurs while Obama is wrapping ours in chains. This may be one of the numerous sides of his anti-business personality that sinks his Presidency.

The Government Plans to Regulate Everything Financial That We Do

We must know our history. We've been down this road before with FDR, Nixon, Bush and now the worst perpetrator of command and control from Washington - Obama. When government goons control our economy people cannot make rational decisions and we stop investing and buying. It's as simple as that. People wake up and demand that Obama stop what he promised during the campaign when he said:

"We are five days away from fundamentally transforming America."

Oh yea...America the beautiful will be transformed alright - into a socialist paradise of poverty, unemployment and decay.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. House lawmakers Friday approved legislation that would make historic changes to the government's oversight of U.S. financial markets and would revolutionize the way businesses and consumers deal with financial products.

A year after a cataclysmic financial crisis threatened to take down world economies, House lawmakers voted 223-202 to pass the largest overhaul of securities laws since the New Deal. The package of regulatory changes would give regulators broad new authority to identify and respond to systemic risks, break up or wind down the riskiest firms, and crack down on abusive lending practices.

The vote is the result of months of debate, negotiations and lobbying and is a legislative victory for the Obama administration, which has made changing the rules for Wall Street a centerpiece of its economic policy agenda. The action now moves to the Senate, where lawmakers are moving a parallel piece of legislation. Capitol Hill aides have said the chance of a bill becoming law in the first half of 2010 appear to have improved just in the last few days.

If enacted, the bill would transform the landscape for everything from the largest mega-banks to the smallest mortgage lenders. Firms that offer credit cards, home loans and other products to consumers would face scrutiny from a new Consumer Financial Protection Agency, while hedge funds and other private pools of capital would for the first time be required to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission...READ AT WSJ

Washington Must Get Out of Our Lives So We Can Work and Produce Again

The uncertainty caused by this administration is what will hold back the great American engine of productivity. We the people don't know what to expect in the near and long term future what with looming dual monstrosities of the Health Care Bill and the Cap and Trade bill with its carbon tax, not to mention looming inflation, that are poised to siphon off our wealth. This uncertainty causes paralysis resulting in people hoarding their money (those that still have jobs) instead of investing and buying. The good thing is that we're learning the lesson that savings are important. At the same time, an economy that doesn't move forward because of political uncertainties can be disastrous for a nation. Our politicians have to GET OUT OF THE WAY and leave us alone to work, invest, purchase and save as we deem appropriate for our own life - not based on politicians' expediency of the minute decision. WSJ has a good piece about our "hangover".

The panicked Democrats' biggest problem is that Congress and the President have erected the biggest overhang of economic policy uncertainty that anyone can remember.

One big difference between Washington and private markets is that politicians think everything they do is free-standing. Markets, however, combine all the potential costs of Washington's policies and then decide whether to invest, or not. Consider what private decision-makers see in their future:

A 2,074-page, trillion-dollar health-care bill to redesign 17% of the U.S. economy. A carbon tax—cap and trade—that remains an Obama priority ahead of the Copenhagen climate summit next month. A falling dollar and gyrating commodity prices, with no idea where those prices will go next.

Democratic liberals are talking about an income tax surcharge to pay for any commitment in Afghanistan. Card check, to expand unionization of the private economy, remains a priority. Domestic discretionary spending in fiscal 2010 is set to rise at 12.1%, with inflation near zero.

Nurturing a fragile economic recovery into a durable expansion requires policies that restore public confidence and reassure investors, risk-takers and employers. The Democratic agenda is doing precisely the opposite, which is how you get subpar growth and fewer new jobs. (READ AT WSJ)

Tyrants Are Always For Social Justice, Never For The Individual

Tyrants of the past and the present are never FOR the individual. The individual is nothing but a cog in the giant machine of "The People". No, tyrants area always for social justice - that ephemeral idea that can be anything to anyone, depends on his goals. The bigger the tyrant the more people are killed to fill his vision of social justice. We have the history of tyrants throughout the ages...the earlier ones like Genghis Khan knew nothing else - that's how the world in general operated. But today's tyrants have the example of the founding of the United States - let's brush up on it because the United States is not guaranteed the individualist creed that each of us has a right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness". Each generation must earn its freedom and must defend it and fight for it if needed. For now we can fight for our freedom by standing up to Washington thuggery and to an overbearing executive branch with wimpy condescending senators and representatives. America's ideals are worth fighting for. Walter Williams at CapMag.com explains it for us.

Today's leftists, socialists and progressives would bristle at the suggestion that their agenda differs little from Nazism. However, there's little or no distinction between Nazism and socialism. Even the word Nazi is short for National Socialist German Workers Party. The origins of the unspeakable horrors of Nazism, Stalinism and Maoism did not begin in the '20s, '30s and '40s. Those horrors were simply the end result of long evolution of ideas leading to consolidation of power in central government in the quest for "social justice." It was decent but misguided earlier generations of Germans, like many of today's Americans, who would have cringed at the thought of genocide, who built the Trojan horse for Hitler to take over.

Few Americans have the stomach or ruthlessness to do what is necessary to make their governmental wishes come true. They are willing to abandon constitutional principles and rule of law so that the nation's elite, who believe they are morally and intellectually superior to the rest of us, can have the tools to implement "social justice." Those tools are massive centralized government power. It just turns out last century's notables in acquiring powerful central government, in the name of social justice, were Hitler, Stalin, Mao, but the struggle for social justice isn't over yet, and other suitors of this dubious distinction are waiting in the wings.

The Hypocrisy Of It All - Our Schools

Walter Williams explains (Obama's Betrayal of Education at Capmag) how what's good for the goose is not good for the gander. While politicians send their children to our disgraceful public schools the rest of Americans have to send their children to our "public schools" and watch anxiously as their brains rot in those classrooms designed to hold back the intellectual development of our kids. One would almost think that the progressives devised these schools on purpose so make malleable citizens who would not question any policy perverted or otherwise.

Instead of President Obama addressing school students across the nation, he might have accomplished more by focusing his attention on the educational rot in schools in the nation's capital.

…The staunchest opponents of school choice are hypocrites. They want, demand and can afford school choice for themselves but for others not so affluent school choice it is a different matter. President and Mrs. Barack Obama enrolled their two daughters in Washington's most prestigious Sidwell Friends School, forking over $28,000 a year for each girl. Whilst senator from Illinois, the Obama's enrolled their girls in the University of Chicago's Laboratory School, a private school in Chicago charging almost $20,000 for each girl. A Heritage Foundation survey found that 37 percent of the members of the House of Representatives and 45 percent of senators in the 110th Congress sent their children to private schools. Public school teachers enroll their own children in nonpublic schools to a much greater extent than the general public, in some cases four and five times greater.

In Cincinnati, about 41 percent of public school teachers send their children to nonpublic schools. In Chicago it is 38 percent, Los Angeles 24 percent, New York 32 percent, and Philadelphia 44 percent. …

For people in power to tolerate the Washington, D.C. school system is despicable. For a black president to do so might qualify as betrayal. READ at CapMag

A Nuclear Iran Appears to be a Certainty and All We Have is a Weak President

Bush did nothing to thwart Iran's nuclear ambitions - Obama, an very weak leader, most certainly will not do anything except go around giving mealy mouth speeches while Rome burns. Obama is the wrong leader at a most dangerous time in the worlds history. A nuclear Iran run by crazed leaders with visions of extermination in their fried brains is here and we knew this was coming for at least a decade. Now we will all pay and pay dearly for not showing bravery and determination to rid the world of the crazies...it's the Nazi story all over again but this time with nuclear bombs.

Eliot A. Cohen at WSJ has an article that's worth reading if you have the stomach.

... And if President Obama does not have the courage to accept hazards and ugly surprises, and if he cannot bring himself to deploy his rhetorical skills to the mobilization of opinion at home and abroad, he should not start a shooting war, even if the Iranians are already waging one against us.

That leaves living with an Iranian bomb. But this too has enormous hazards. It will engender—it has already quietly engendered—a nuclear arms race in the region. It will embolden the Iranian regime to make much more lethal mischief than it has even now. In a region that respects strength, it will enhance, not diminish, Iranian prestige. And it may yield the first nuclear attack since 1945 some time down the road.

At the heart of the problem is not simply the nuclear program. It is the Iranian regime, a regime that has, since 1979, relentlessly waged war against the U.S. and its allies. From Buenos Aires to Herat, from Beirut to Cairo, from Baghdad to, now, Caracas, Iranian agents have done their best to disrupt and kill. Iran is militarily weak, but it is masterful at subversive war, and at the kind of high-tech guerrilla, roadside-bomb and rocket fight that Hezbollah conducted in 2006. American military cemeteries contain the bodies of hundreds, maybe thousands, of American servicemen and servicewomen slain by Iranian technology, Iranian tactics, and in some cases, Iranian operatives.

The brutality without is more than matched by the brutality within—the rape, torture and summary execution of civilians by the tens of thousands, down, quite literally, to the present day. This is a corrupt, fanatical, ruthless and unprincipled regime—unpopular, to be sure, but willing to do whatever it takes to stay in power. With such a regime, no real negotiation, based on understandings of mutual interest and respect for undertakings is possible. READ AT WSJ.

Obama Cavorting With Evil Is a Loss For Us

If the good collaborates with evil and gives it a platform that is called collaboration and evil will always win. That is why when one is confronted by evil one either extinguishes the evil or runs away to protect himself. At the UN the good countries give a podium to the evil ones and that is what they crave. Libya, Iran, Venezuela the list goes on and on - what could we possibly learn from them. They are evil nations and need to be confronted by strength and force not appeasement. Mark Steyn has a good article decrying Obama's cavorting with these dictators and thugs.
..."It's a good basic axiom that if you take a quart of ice cream and a quart of dog feces and mix 'em together the result will taste more like the latter than the former. That's the problem with the U.N."
Absolutely right, if I do say so myself. When you make the free nations and the thug states members of the same club, the danger isn't that they'll meet each other half-way but that the free world winds up going three-quarters, seven-eighths of the way.

That's what happened in New York last week. Barack Obama is not to blame for whichever vagary of United Nations protocol resulted in the president of the United States being the warm-up act for the Lunatic-for-Life in charge of Libya.
But it is a pitiful reflection upon the state of the last superpower that, when it comes to the transnational mush drooled by the leader of the free world or the conspiracist ramblings of a terrorist pseudo-Bedouin running a one-man psycho-cult of a basket-case state, it's more or less a toss-up as to which of them is more unreal.
To be sure, Col. Gadhafi peddled his thoughts on the laboratory origins of swine flu and the Zionist plot behind the Kennedy assassination.
But, on the other hand, President Obama said: "No nation can or should try to dominate another nation."
Pardon me? Did a professional speechwriter write that? Or did you outsource it to a starry-eyed runner-up in the Miss America pageant? Whether any nation "should try" to dominate another, they certainly "can," and do so with effortless ease, all over the planet and throughout human history.
And how about this passage?
"I have been in office for just nine months — though some days it seems a lot longer. I am well aware of the expectations that accompany my presidency around the world. These expectations are not about me. Rather, they are rooted, I believe, in a discontent with a status quo that has allowed us to be increasingly defined by our differences ... ."
Forget the first part: That's just his usual narcissistic "But enough about me, let's talk about what the world thinks of me" shtick. But the second is dangerous in its cowardly evasiveness: For better or worse, we are defined by our differences — and, if Barack Obama doesn't understand this when he's at the podium addressing a room filled with representatives of Iran, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Venezuela and other unlovely polities, the TV audience certainly did when Col. Gadhafi took to the podium immediately afterward....

Thank You Obama for Making The Choice So Stark: Slavery To The State or Freedom

It's either freedom or slavery to the State. We have finally come to this crossroads thanks to Barack Obama and I do thank him. Why? Because we have been floating along on a cloud allowing the government TO DO things to us that are contrary to living a full life of sentient autonomous human beings. For anyone interested in reading about what the advantages are of freedom versus the enormous cost of government intervention in the economy you can read about the emergence of the energy and lighting industry in the 1800's and early 1900's, a time when there was a great amount of freedom in the market place. The story of the discovery of oil and it's infinite uses is inspiring and brought light and transportation to a world living half it's life in darkness and the slow transportation of horse and buggy. Contrast this story with our farm policy beginning in 1862 when the government started meddling in agriculture and the loss of freedom and rights that resulted and is still in operation today for everyone connected to farming and those who buy the products. For more on these two interesting topics go to The Objective Standard (www.theobjectivestandard.com, summer issue 2009).

Thomas Sowell with his usual eloquence calls us all to vigilance toward our precious freedom. Remember, that most of humanity for most our history has lived in subjugation to the powers that be. We in the United States are an anomaly, an oasis of freedom. We should protect it at all costs unless we be the chattel of politicians.

"Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom." We have heard that many times. What is also the price of freedom is the toleration of imperfections. If everything that is wrong with the world becomes a reason to turn more power over to some political savior, then freedom is going to erode away, while we are mindlessly repeating the catchwords of the hour, whether "change," "universal health care" or "social justice."

If we can be so easily stampeded by rhetoric that neither the public nor the Congress can be bothered to read, much less analyze, bills making massive changes in medical care, then do not be surprised when life and death decisions about you or your family are taken out of your hands-- and out of the hands of your doctor-- and transferred to bureaucrats in Washington.

Let's go back to square one. The universe was not made to our specifications. Nor were human beings. So there is nothing surprising in the fact that we are dissatisfied with many things at many times. The big question is whether we are prepared to follow any politician who claims to be able to "solve" our "problem."

If we are, then there will be a never ending series of "solutions," each causing new problems calling for still more "solutions." That way lies a never-ending quest, costing ever increasing amounts of the taxpayers' money and-- more important-- ever greater losses of your freedom to live your own life as you see fit, rather than as presumptuous elites dictate...(Read at CapMag.com)

The Dems Know That Cap-and-Trade Is A Massive Tax Increase On Us

...And yet they will try to pass this unlawful, anti-American, liberal tax on us. It is a shame that we will let them. Read this article "The Cap and Tax Fiction" at the Wall Street Journal.

Even as Democrats have promised that this cap-and-trade legislation won't pinch wallets, behind the scenes they've acknowledged the energy price tsunami that is coming. During the brief few days in which the bill was debated in the House Energy Committee, Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%. Democrats defeated all of them.

The reality is that cost estimates for climate legislation are as unreliable as the models predicting climate change. What comes out of the computer is a function of what politicians type in. A better indicator might be what other countries are already experiencing. Britain's Taxpayer Alliance estimates the average family there is paying nearly $1,300 a year in green taxes for carbon-cutting programs in effect only a few years.

Americans should know that those Members who vote for this climate bill are voting for what is likely to be the biggest tax in American history. Even Democrats can't repeal that reality.

Let's Nationalize Everything

With all the takeovers by our government and people seemingly not minding this turn away from freedom, rights and the supreme law of the land, OUR CONSTITUTION, let's see what this nationalization craze would look like with something we would never even consider - our grocery stores. If you think it's ridiculous why isn't it equally ridiculous that this president is nationalizing our car manufacturers and our banks????

It's Time to Nationalize Grocery Stores
By Richard E. Ralston
April 26, 2009

One of the great scandals of our age is the fact that America spends more on food than any other nation. Many political leaders are now calling for urgent reform to bring spending on food under control. While food spending is rapidly increasing and many Americans are overweight, some do not have enough to eat.

In spite of this high spending, the United Nations reports that, according to surveys they sent to government officials around the world, the quality of U.S. food is ranked very low. Results from officials in France report that their food is the best in the world. Although that needs to be taken with a grain of Dijon, it might be true. More insulting is the higher ranking that British experts give their food.

Leaders in Congress now point to what they see as the heart of the problem: corporate greed in the form of grocery stores and restaurants operating on a for-profit basis. They promise to replace all private grocery stores with a national system of government commissaries, which will allegedly operate far more efficiently without the administrative overhead required to make a profit. As it will take some time to organize the national network of commissaries, initially groceries will be available only at offices of the Department of Motor Vehicles and U.S. Postal Service. These offices have a proven track record of operational efficiency and excellent customer service, and will be a model for the development of a government commissary system.

Congress and the Administration say they will achieve further efficiencies by prohibiting all advertising of food and food products. Consumers will find shopping to be much easier if personal preference is eliminated in favor of whatever foods government makes available.

To better control costs, the government will invest billions in new electronic food purchasing records. Everything you eat will be reported to the government, which will analyze the data to eliminate wasteful or unhealthy eating. All new food must be approved by a new Comparative Calorie and Taste Administration, which will eliminate most of the unnecessary brands of potato chips. And as anyone who shops in grocery stores knows, we have far too many brands of beer.

Food is surely a right, as it is necessary for human survival. Therefore all groceries available in government commissaries will be free of charge. This will be financed by an increase of 15 percent in income taxes, except for those making over $80,000 a year, whose taxes will be increased by 75 percent. Because the supply of food is not unlimited, a fixed amount of ration coupons will be distributed to insure that each consumer can obtain an equal amount of food.

All private restaurants will be closed, and limited cafeterias will be operated as government commissaries. Congressional liberals point to school lunch programs as a model and the proven results demonstrated by several generations of well-nourished, trim and fit students. Of course, we veterans also remember all of that great Army chow.

So far, conservative leaders are at a loss after hearing these proposals. Some of the more courageous conservatives are responding with proposals for Mandatory Food Purchasing. All citizens, including those who go to bed hungry every night, will be required to purchase membership in new Food Management Organizations. To further control costs, the purchase of certain cuts of meat and imported gourmet foods could require the FMO's advance approval.

Across the political spectrum, there is a developing consensus that the only appropriate response to the fact that some consumers cannot afford groceries is to impose a single, regimented, government-controlled food system on all citizens. All agree that this is sure to provide the same consistently high standards as public education.

Rumor has it that the clincher for those proposing grocery nationalization was stated recently by the White House: "The great thing about these proposals is that if we can somehow get this to work for groceries, we can apply the same idea to health care."
